    Stand Up For Stree

A campaign against Gender-Based Violenceess

The Stand Up For Stree Campaign against Gender-based Violence will commence from 10th November to 10th December 2021.

It is a step taken by young people, volunteers, institutions and organisations to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls

In a study in India, on about 10,000 women, 26 per cent reported having experienced physical violence from spouses during their lifetime. The prevalence could be as high as 45 per cent, as indicated by data from some states.

The latest figures from the NCRB shows that:

A crime was recorded against women every three minutes.

Every hour, at least two women are sexually assaulted, and every six hours, a young married woman is beaten to death, burnt or driven to suicide.

28.4 per cent of pregnant women suffer domestic violence.

As a result of violence, women suffer social isolation, unemployment, income loss, poor self-care and fail to provide childcare, which is a grave concern.

Limitless Stree has launched the Stand Up for Stree campaign to ensure women and girls live a safe and dignified life.

Why Gender Based Violence ?

Forms-of-Violence.png

Gender-based violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts directed at an individual or a group of individuals based on their gender.

It is rooted in gender inequality, the abuse of power and harmful norms. While women and girls suffer disproportionately from GBV, men and boys can also be targeted. The term is also sometimes used to describe targeted violence against LGBTQI+ populations when referencing violence related to norms of masculinity/femininity and/or gender norms.

Actions Taken

During the COVID-19 pandemic, violence against women has increased at an alarming rate. We along with our partners and volunteers had a chance, through this campaign to do something about it, to make a change that will impact the lives of women and girls worldwide.
